Why can’t ordinary motors be used directly as inverter motors?

Ordinary motors cannot be used directly as inverter motors, mainly because they are different in design and construction, resulting in differences in operating characteristics and adaptability. Here are the differences between ordinary motors and inverter motors:

 1. Design and Construction:

- Ordinary motors: Designed to operate at a constant mains frequency and voltage, typically with a fixed speed and power.

- When a normal motor is operated under a non-sinusoidal waveform generated by the inverter, it may cause additional losses, resulting in reduced efficiency and increased temperature rise.

 4. Dielectric Strength:

- The high carrier frequencies generated by the inverter may pose a challenge to the insulation system of ordinary motors, increasing the risk of damage to the turn-to-turn insulation.

 5. Electromagnetic Noise and Vibration:

- Ordinary motors powered by inverters may produce more complex electromagnetic noise and vibration because the harmonics in the inverter power supply interfere with the inherent spatial harmonics of the motor.

 6. Low RPM Cooling Problem:

- At low speeds, the cooling air volume of ordinary motors will be greatly reduced, making it difficult to dissipate heat, and it may not be possible to achieve constant torque output.

7. Speed regulation performance:

- Inverter motors can smoothly adjust the speed over a wide range, while the speed of ordinary motors is usually fixed.

 8. Energy Efficiency and Conservation:

- Inverter motors can achieve efficient operation and energy saving by accurately controlling the speed and power, while ordinary motors may have large energy consumption and energy waste when running.

 9. Applications:

- Inverter motors are suitable for occasions that require precise control of speed and torque, such as CNC machine tools, elevators, textile machinery, etc., while ordinary motors are suitable for occasions that do not require precise control of speed, such as fans, water pumps, etc.
